topography part 3: John Sell Cotman

here is one of the biggest geniusses of the age in my opinion. Going from the abstract forms of Girtin to the colorful dynamics of WM Turner, John Sell Cotman could do it all.

topography part 2: thomas shotter boys

These are some works of the English painter Thomas Shotter boys. He's a great draughtsman, evidently not only in his architectural details but also in his figures. These are from a collection called 'Picturesque Architecture in Paris, Ghent, Antwerp and Rouen'. The plates are from top to bottom;

The Remains of the Old Church of the Madeleine, Rue de la Licorne, Paris
The Belphry in ghent (my hometown :))
The Cathedral in laon
Rue-Notre-Dame, Paris
Porte Rouge, Notre Dame; Doorway of Hotel, Rue des Marmousets, Paris

It could be nice to compare these with their contempory states. Maybe next time.
